This week’s update covers calendar week 42 of 2026 (October 12–18).

Title

I was deciding between three different titles: a planning week, a slower week, or a foundation week. Eventually, I decided to go with a planning week.

Summary

I didn’t feel that this was a very productive week. I did some planning for my side project, started with the foundation, and read 4 new chapters in “Tiny Experiments”. I was planning to do more, which is why I don’t feel very satisfied with it.

Planning

I created 11 milestones in Jira, each covering a different part of the project. The first milestones focus on laying the foundation: setting up the repository, preparing Docker images for local development, creating the necessary accounts, obtaining API keys, and so on.

Before jumping into building the full product, I decided to include a Proof of Concept (PoC) to validate the core functionality. Once that’s working, I’ll move on to building a basic UI, adding more features, and gradually polishing the user experience. I also included a milestone for setting up CI/CD pipelines and deployments.

Overall, I’ve finished laying the foundation and now have a clearer roadmap for the project. The next step is to start working on the PoC and see how things go.

Tiny Experiments

I was planning to finish the book this week, but I didn’t. Part 3 of the book is about React, or collaborating with uncertainty. The author presents what she calls the Plus, Minus, Next framework. It’s about taking 5 minutes on Sunday evening to write down what went well last week, what went badly, and what you will do next week. Chapter 8 talks about how to make better decisions after your pact is over. Anne suggests three outcomes: Persist, which means keeping up with the pact; Pause, which means stopping it; and Pivot, which means changing your approach to your pact. She gives examples and more details on how to handle this by asking yourself two questions based on:

  • External Signals: How does your pact fit with your current circumstances?

  • Internal Signals: How do you feel about your pact right now?

Chapter 9 has a cool title: “How to dance with disruption?” It contains valuable ideas and examples.

Overall, I enjoyed reading part 3. It’s not just about making a plan and doing it, but it’s also about adapting to changes and disruptions along the way. I am looking forward to the final part. The title is really interesting: IMPACT, grow with the world.
