Starting Weekly Updates on Software, Books, and Personal Projects
I am starting weekly updates to share what I learn, read, build, and ship. Alongside technical articles, these posts will include books, personal projects, and reflections on work and everyday life.
Why Start Weekly Blog Updates?
I shared my first blog in December 2019. Back then, the intention was only to share posts about technical topics, and I’ve shared a couple of blogs, mostly related to competitive programming.
Recently, I decided to make a shift in what I post. I want to share about different topics: some might be purely technical, others might be opinion-based, I might write about a book I’ve read, or how I think about AI affecting life, society, and work.
What to Expect in the Weekly Updates
Anything I can share publicly. Usually, I am very comfortable sharing different stuff on social media. The idea is to share small things I like, but that are not worth writing a full blog post about. For example, I recently started reading “Deep learning with Python” by Francois Chollet, and I read something that I really liked:
If deep learning is the steam engine of this revolution, then data is its coal.
I could write something like: I was reading this book during the week, and I found this quote very interesting.
I can also share small insights, like “This week I learned about this topic” or “I read this book, and here’s a short review.” (Recently, I finished reading 1984 by George Orwell, and I am planning to write a full blog post about it.) Or I can share what I planned, built, or shipped. For example, I am planning to build a pharmacy management app to help my sister manage her pharmacy, and I can mention that this week I added a certain feature, with details to come in a separate blog post. I could also share that I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn and we had an interview, that I had my first freelance client, etc.
What I Hope to Get from Writing Weekly
Basically, I want to achieve a couple of goals:
- I want to keep posting here regularly. If I post weekly, I hope that I will stay motivated to post more about different topics.
- I want to feel that I am achieving/doing something, even if it’s a little. I also want to avoid saying some week that I don’t have anything to share; this shouldn’t happen again.
- I want to spend less time on social media, but I also like sharing stuff, so this blog would be ideal for that.
- I want to keep this as a logbook, to look at it in a couple of months/years and remember what I was doing.
- To create memories. I am planning to make some personal/career changes, and it would be nice in 5 years to look at this and say: that’s how I made the switch, or that’s how I chose this path.
Conclusion
The next thing I will share will be on October 10th, in CW41 (Calendar Week 41). You can find all posts like this at weekly-updates. Also, don’t forget to subscribe (check the subscribe form in the right sidebar) so you won’t miss anything. Stay tuned for more! 😃
